Job interview is a challenging experience. Interview questions vary depending on a type of interview and job that you have applied for. However, there are common interview questions that are asked during many job interviews. In this article we will discuss typical interview questions and possible answers to them.

1.) Tell me about yourself

It would be a mistake to tell your life story. You should describe your educational and professional background in a brief manner. For example, I hold B.S. Degree in Computer Science from University Of Hard Knocks. I worked for XYZ Company for two years. I developed web applications for them. Now I am with ZYX Company. I work on their Order Entry System.

Some interviewers will ask you to discuss your education or job experience in more detail while others will move to the next question.

2.) Why do you want to leave your present employer?

One shouldn’t criticize present or past employers even if they deserve it. Your criticism will make you look like a potential troublemaker. You must concentrate on positive topics such as new challenges, career advancement and so on.

3.) Why do you want to work for this particular company?

Proper research is the key to answer the question. You can visit a company's web site and learn about prospective employer.

In your answer you should use facts that you learned about prospective employer. For instance, I visited your company web site and found out that you’ve been in business for 100 years. I always wanted to work for established company. Here is another example. I learned that your company is developing software for international business firms. I am very interested in such projects.

Basically you should have the answer to this question before the interview. General answers like "because this is a great company" are probably not your best option because prospective employer prefers to hear specific reasons.
